A Chinese colleague responds as follows to my interview, in a Mandarin-language business magazine, regarding the future of China in a globalising economy:
"I totally agree with you that the China-centric sentiment will hinder China's globalization process. The traditional value system was destroyed during and even before the cultural revolution. In the last three decade, it gradually comes back and with the fast economic development, some Chinese indulge themselves in the old dream of the central kingdom again. Even in management, there is a voice that the Chinese management style is better than the Western one. Personally I believe that without fully appreciating the Western management concepts, Chinese business will face big problem not only abroad, but also in their own country."
